Two Months Old

Today you are exactly two months old. I can't believe that two months have been and gone already but at the same time you have changed a lot in that time. At around six and a half-seven weeks old you became a lot more alert and despite still being little were moving from being a little newborn to starting to become your own little person. You have always had this cute little habit of tucking your thumb in between your first two fingers but on July 23 your thumb came out of hiding for just seconds to find its way into your mouth. I was quickly able to get a picture of you clumsily sucking your thumb. You haven't done it since.
You seem to love music. Finding it calming being sung to or even just listening to it while we are in the car. Daddy will sometimes wriggle you around when he sings to you and you have started to wriggle yourself, continuing to dance if he stops. You have now got us wondering if you will follow in my footsteps and become a little dancer.
Your smiles are becoming more frequent. You are staying awake a bit more during the day and are alert enjoying stories and tummy time. A time for you to explore what you are capable of rolling and kicking your legs.

Becoming Alert to the World Around

You are becoming very aware of the world around you and while you sleep well at night, doing between 9-10 hours, you aren't so keen on sleeping during the day. Knowing when people are around and that you might be missing out on things.
We are looking forward to heading over to Australia in a couple of months and meeting your playmate Thomas but first we have to get a passport photo which is proving near impossible. You have to be looking front on so we can see both of your ears, your eyes have to be open, your tongue in your mouth, mouth closed, and no hands up by your face and we can't be in the background holding you still. I took you to the pharmacy when you were a month old to try and get the photo but after half an hour of trying we headed home to try again later. We had three of us helping to capture the photo, a photographer, me holding your hands down and another lady trying to hold your head in the middle and then quickly letting go because you always like having your head turned to the side, she commented on how strong your neck was for your age. You always have had quite a strong neck and have been able to hold your head well having good control from a very early age. A few nights ago Daddy and I thought we would give it another try putting you on your change table. You were perfect except for your mouth. It was wide open. But the funniest thing was when Daddy said "close your mouth," and you did. You quickly shut your mouth and pulled the cutiest confused face like "ok I will shut it but why?"

Plunket have been and you are continuing to do well gaining some more weight. You now weigh 4.34kg so you are still putting on weight but you are still quite little, fitting your newborn clothes despite being seven weeks old.
We are getting out and about for lots of walks with Ava and you love it when the pram is moving but quickly sense when it stops or even when we get home. Even when we are moving you flick between being asleep and taking in the world around you.
You love playing in your play gym and today you managed to roll from your tummy onto your back it gave you a bit of a fright at first I think and the next time you were up I got the camera at the ready and we were able to video it to show Daddy just how clever you are at just seven weeks old!

Six Weeks Old and the Dreaded Jabs

As you hit the six week old mark on Friday you were due for your check up with Dr Ewen and your first lot of immunisations. We have heard you do little cries as you wake wanting some food or when you are put to bed and you don't think you are tired enough to be in there or would rather be up and about with the rest of us. But we have never heard you scream like you did once those injections hit your thighs. You turned bright red in the face, your mouth was open wide and you let rip. But the injections took seconds and then a cuddle with Daddy made everything better. Dr Ewen asked how you were going and we could proudly report that everything is going well and that you even slept over eight hours the night before, (the 10th of July). There were a couple of nights where you had slept for seven and three quarter hours but this was the first time you managed the full eight hours and we were pretty impressed!
You have started cooing which we love listening to and always try to encourage you to talk some more and continue with the story that you are telling us. You still love shower time with Daddy, a part of the day you both look forward too. Last night in the shower you clung onto Daddy's chain and then started to give him some nipple gripple with your little sharp nails, but one look at you in his arms and Daddy didn't mind.
On Monday we had our last visit from Therese. She took your measurements for the last time and you were able to show her just how well you are growing. You have gone from weighing 6p2oz born to now weighing 9p1oz. You were 49.5cm long now you are 56cm. It was sad to say goodbye for now but we will see Therese again one day when you get a little brother or sister.
Today I went and got a haircut so I had some milk ready for you in case you woke up. Grandma came round to look after you while Daddy was busy doing some jobs too. You woke up just before I got home and were happy to see Grandma and be feed by her.
You also had a special Skype date with your Aunty Courtney who is missing you very much. She had been around to Blake's mum's and got a collection of bedtime stories and read you one about a teddy who had lost his trousers. Luckily by the end of the story he had found them. It was so cute when you woke up for this Skype date. I said we are going to see Aunty Courtney and you did the biggest smile when I said it again your cute smile got wider and wider. If only Aunty Courtney had seen that at the beginning of your Skype video.
On Friday we will have our first Plunket visit with them coming to visit us at home, we know you will impress them with your cuteness and show them just how well you are doing as well.
Nana and Poppa have brought you a play gym and you love having tummy time and time to kick about (particularly with no nappy on) underneath it. You are beginning to understand that it is your hands waving about or your leg kicking which makes the bell chime or the mat crinkle or the toy's rattle.

Five Week Old Photoshoot

Every day we look at how much you are growing and time is passing by so quickly.
With Daddy being sick and not wanting to pass on his bugs we finally got some photos taken to introduce you to the world and for us to capture just how cute and tiny you are before you grow so big it becomes hard to remember a time when you were so small. We transformed our lounge into a studio and Adrian took the photos for us. These few shots capture just how loved you are!
