Important People Are Named

On Saturday, January 31 we headed up to Auckland to the Scholastic Book Sale we got two big boxes full of books for a bargain. Being such a great price meant there were lots of others who wanted to full a box and so we stood in line for hours and hours waiting for our turn to get inside and pick our books. Grandma came up with us while Daddy went to cricket. You were obviously missing your Daddy because the whole day all we heard was "Dad, Dad, Dad, Dada, Dad...." Once you learnt that word you haven't stopped. During the day when you miss your Daddy you say his name in the hope that he will come home. When we travel to the pools to see him and I say we are going to see Daddy you chant "Dad, Dad, Dada," the whole way there and back. Next came Ava. You love playing with Ava and it wasn't long before you were saying "Ava,va, va, va." Now if you are away from Ava for to long you start looking for her and say "Ava, va, va, va." There was no sign of the word Mum but I was always saying the word Daddy or Ava not so much talking about myself and using the word Mum. I knew you loved me and figured that being around me all day everyday you didn't really need to learn the word Mum. Then on Sunday 22 February Daddy and I were doing up your bedroom and making a headboard for the single bed you will grow into. Grandma and Poppa were looking after you for a few hours so that Daddy and I could get these jobs done. We dropped you off at their place and you had a great time with lots of singing and dancing. You were also crawling about saying "Mum, Mum, Mum..." When I got back to Grandma and Poppa's to pick you up I changed your nappy before putting you in the car and you said it "Mum, Mum." I said "that sounded like Mum." That's when Grandma and Poppa said "oh yeah, she has been saying it the whole time and she was saying it so well we didn't think it was anything new." So it seems it was just that you had never had a chance to miss me before. We love hearing you talk away to yourself and recognising the occasional word in there.
